Latitude and Longtitude

We have imaginary (invisible) lines around the earth to help us explain direction and position.
This helps pilots fly a plane in the air, without signs!
The Equator is one of the lines of latitude.
They are lines of longitude and lines of latitudes

Watch this video to find out more.

[Monday] Good Morning Year 4!

Hello Year 4! How are you all? Did you have a nice weekend?

Thanks Rushane for your letter. I'm glad you saw Ms Icilda. I miss her loads too!
Ayaan, dead rat in the garden!!!! Gosh!!! 😓😓 Maybe a fox came to kill it?

Today, we are looking at some common mistakes of homophones.
Do you remember what homophones are? They are words that sound the same but are spelt differently and have different meanings.

For example:
where (Where are you?)
wear (You should wear a coat.)
we're (We're best friends.)
were (We were going to go for a picnic.)

their (The children brought their pets to school!)

Vertebrates and invertebrates

Our world is full of different living things! Plants, house pets, insects and even us humans!

Because there are so many different types of living things, scientists sort them into 2 big groups: vertebrates and invertebrates.

Some examples of vertebrates are: mammals (monkeys/ elephants)/ birds (duck/ chicken)/ fish (shark)/ amphibians (frogs/ toads) / reptiles (snake/ turtle)

Some examples of invertebrates are: starfish, earthworms, crabs, shrimps, insects (ants, beetles, ladybirds)

TASK
Try to classify the following animals into vertebrates or invertebrates.

Sort the vertebrates into specific groups: fish/ birds/ mammals/ amphibians/ reptiles
You can use this to help you.

Hours, minutes, seconds...

How many seconds make up 1 minute?
How many minutes are there in 1 hour?
How many hours are there in 1 day?

There are:
  • 60 seconds in a minute.
  • 60 minutes in an hour.
  • 24 hours in a day.

Henry's record is _____ minute _____ seconds.
_____________ is correct because __________ ran faster!

[Friday] Good Morning Year 4

Thank you Nico, Ayaan and Rushane for sending in your work!

Nico, I really loved your powerful description of the medical centre. Well done for including different senses in your work!
Rushane, your setting description is incredibly powerful! A lot of creative ideas! Toy room, candy smelling space station, edible park with funfair rides! WOW!
Ayaan, you used a lot of powerful verbs to describe the surrounding! Well done!

Every Friday, I would like you to write me a letter about your week.
What did you do?
Did you go outside?
What do you miss?
How are you feeling?

Here's Miss Alice's week.

This week, I went out with my sister to do some shopping since it's quite warm in Hong Kong and I needed some summer clothes!
We need to wear face masks in Hong Kong to stop the spreading of the virus.
We also did some grocery shopping. We found out that fairy liquid is also sold in Hong Kong supermarkets! This made us miss London a lot.

Although Hong Kong is not in lockdown (which means people can go out freely), I tend to stay home as well. This means that I get to spend more time with my cat (Carrot). Sadly, he always prefers sleeping over playing with me...😿

Email your letter to debeauvoirprimaryschool@gmail.com so I can find out what you're up to!

Miss you all.
Best,
Miss Alice 😸

Origami

Hello Year 4, we are going to make some crafts today.
Have you heard of origami? It is the art of paper folding

Click on the videos below to try it yourself. You don't need nice fancy paper. It works well with scrap paper too (and it's environmentally friendly!)

Take a photo of what you've done and email it to debeauvoirprimaryschool@gmail.com and I will share it with everyone in tomorrow's post!

1) Jumping frog

2) Dragon

3) Bunny
